BECOME AN OBAN URBAN DETECTIVE
When : Saturday, 3 September 2016 from 14:00 to 15:30
Where : The Rockfield Centre – Stevenson Street, Oban, PA34
This free workshop for Oban’s history-lovers will show you how to research your town or city, and how to contribute your own memories, facts and photographs of Scotland’s urban places to the National Record of the Historic Environment.
Urban Detectives are members of the public who research Scotland’s towns and cities, discovering hidden stories of everyday places and contributing their knowledge to the Historic Environment Scotland archive.
This free workshop on Saturday 3 September will walk you through the steps of adding stories, facts and photos of Oban to the Historic Environment Scotland online archive, Canmore.
For the best experience, we recommend you bring something digital to contribute. This could be memories of a place, a photograph of the house you grew up in, or family history facts about places your grandparents worked. Please only bring digital contributions with you on a USB stick or a mobile phone, as we will not have the facilities to scan photographs at this event.
Although the focus of the workshop will be on Oban, the skills developed will be useful for anyone with an interest in recording the local history of their area.
Suitable for heritage newcomers. Familiarity with the internet is required.
Due to limited capacity of the venue, booking in advance is essential.
Please note, a photographer may be present at Scotland’s Urban Past events and the images may be used for promotional purposes.
