Taynuilt Medical Practice Easter newsletter

Taynuilt Medical Proactice Newsletter Easter 2010
Public Holidays
The surgeries at Connel, Taynuilt and Dalmally will be closed for the Easter break on Friday 2nd and Monday 5th April 2010.  In an emergency please contact NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24.
We will be open again as normal on 6th April 2010.
We are also closed for a public holiday on Monday 3rd May 2010.
Repeat Prescription ordering
A reminder to everyone re allowing a MINIMUM of 24 hours working time between ordering and collecting medications.  We would ask that you re-order your medications a week before you run out.  This applies at all three sites but in Taynuilt the practice staff dispense your drugs and they DO require adequate time to process, dispense and check your order. We do not hold stocks of every drug and if we need to order this takes another 24 hours.   Thanks for helping us to help you.
Holiday Overseas – Travel Immunisations
Remember, if you are going abroad on holiday you may need travel vaccinations, or boosters.  Please check with one of the practice nurses well in advance of travel, preferably 6-8 weeks before to discuss any health issues, vaccinations or malaria tablets etc.
Travel health information for the public can be accessed on the website
www.fitfortravel.co.uk
Update on our Doctors
Dr. Fiona Shaw is on maternity leave for the rest of this year. She and husband, Vince, are now the proud parents of Lewis who was born at the beginning of February.  We have two familiar faces, both working part-time, whilst Dr Shaw is off. They are Dr. Cathy Ford on Mondays and Tuesdays and Dr Kathleen MacGregor later in the week.
Charity Fund
The practice has now set up a Charitable Trust which is registered with Scottish Charities (OSCR). This fund has been established largely from a bequest to the practice in the wills of the late Dr and Mrs Dawson of Letterwalton and has been augmented by donations from other patients and the WRVS.
We are keen that this fund is used and that the money should not just lie in the bank and to that end welcome applications/suggestions on how best to use it.
The objectives of the Charity are wide ranging and cover most activities that would benefit the health and welfare of the practice population or the local community.
If you have ideas that you would like the trustees to consider, please contact Gail Macgregor by letter or email her at gail.macgregor@nhs.net.
Dates for your diary

MeDCATS –  Patient Group News
The patient group have been undertaking a survey on NHS24 and have been sending out surveys to a selection of people who have used this service.  Thank you to all who returned these.  The results of this will be available shortly.  If you would like to comment on your own experiences with NHS24, please get in touch.
Dr Lennox Webb, Ophthalmologist and Ken MacDonald, Specsavers have agreed to give a talk on the Eye Charities they work with in Africa. All are welcome to attend what is likely to be a very interesting talk.  It is hoped this will take place on 29th April.  Please watch the notice boards, or ask at the surgeries for further details.
For further information on any of the groups activities please contact Janice at Connel Surgery or Steve Eccles, Chairperson, on 720438.
Practice Email Address
We recently changed the practice email address and we can now be contacted on
High-uhb.tmp@nhs.net
We realise that more and more of you are using emails as a method of communication and feel that it would be useful to set up a database of contact details so that we can easily get in touch with patients.  We anticipate that this could be used for giving information, e.g. newsletter, flu clinic details, and for receiving information back, e.g. questionnaires.  If you wish your contact details to be included, we would be grateful if you could send us an email to the above address, stating your name and date of birth.

Patient Library
We are pleased to announce that the patient library has now re-opened. We have a selection of books aimed at managing certain conditions, others providing information and help with baby and child care, teenage problems, male and female related topics and a range covering general medical matters.  We also have books on conditions such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer, Depression and High Blood Pressure.
If you are looking for a specific title which we do not have we would be pleased to have your suggestion and purchase it for the library.
Books are held at all three sites and are rotated from time to time.
The lending period is one month and is free of charge.
Artwork in Connel Surgery
If you have been in the surgery recently you will have noticed the different range of artwork around reception.  The paintings are all the work of Pauline Justin and are available for purchase. If interested in seeing more of Pauline’s work, or in any of the range currently on display, you can contact her on 01631 750295.
