Practice Team Update
Dr Jagan Repala has completed his year with the practice. He passed his MRCGP exam in June and has moved to the Dumfries area. We wish him well with his future career.
Dr Chris Taylor joins us in early August. He will be working in the Practice for the next year.
Mo Griffiths has been with the Community Nursing team for three months. She normally works with the Oban Nursing Team.
We continue to have both medical & nursing students with the team. Some of you may also have met the School Pupils who join us for short spells – they are keen to see ‘hands on’ what life is like in general practice.
Public Holidays – Protected Learning Time Afternoons
This year the Public Holidays allocated are slightly different to normal. All three surgeries plus the Pharmacy will be closed on Monday 30th August and Monday 27th September. We will also be closed from 1.00pm on Tuesday 7th September for protected learning time. On this afternoon, the team will be attending a joint session with other practices in the area.
Connel Surgery Coffee Shop
From the beginning of August the Coffee Shop will be run by the volunteers as part of the practice Charitable Trust and will no longer be associated with the WRVS. The ladies have smart new tabards with the practice logo. They will continue to provide the same fare as before but will now have more autonomy with the support of the practice.
Charitable Trust
The practice charitable trust recently held its AGM – the trustees and members approved gifts to local groups. Applications for funding in the future were discussed. A special newsletter with more information will be available soon.
MeDCATS – Patient Group News
Taynuilt Medical Practice patient group, MeDCATS, will be holding their Annual General Meeting on 11th August 2010 at Connel Surgery, 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
If you would like more information on MeDCATS and the activities they are involved in, please contact Steve Eccles, Chairperson, 720 438, or Janice McGhee, Connel Surgery, 710 229.
Alcohol Awareness Weeks
As part of an initiative throughout Argyll & Bute, we will be asking patients visiting the doctor or nurse during specific weeks to complete a screening questionnaire about their alcohol consumption and its effects. This will be discussed at your consultation on that day.
The first of these weeks is at the beginning of September and there will be other weeks in November and March.
Connel Pharmacy
Over the next couple of months we’re planning on fitting a consulting area within the existing pharmacy layout. This will allow us to provide a more confidential area for use in supplying medicines and for providing the Minor Ailments Service.
Unfortunately as a result we will lose some of our retail space – however we will still carry a full range of over the counter medicines and be able to make special orders for items that we don’t carry in stock.
Finally in the coming months, some patients may be asked to participate in the early stages of the new Chronic Medication Service. This is the latest segment of the new pharmacy contract and aims to make the best use of patients prescribed medications.
Practice Email Address
We recently changed the practice email address and we can now be contacted on:
We realise that more and more of you are using emails as a method of communication and feel that it would be useful to set up a database of contact details so that we can easily get in touch with patients. We anticipate that this could be used for giving information, e.g. newsletter, flu clinic details, and for receiving information back, e.g. questionnaires. If you wish your contact details to be included, we would be grateful if you could send us an email to the above address, stating your name and date of birth.
