Ardchattan and Barcaldine Primary Schools to close?

Argyll and Bute Council has drawn up a list of 26 primary schools it wishes to close and amalgamate into 20 other primary schools in order to save ВЈ1.9 million annually from its education budget. The news follows the council’s review of its education budget and hits many of the council’s 59 per cent of schools which are operating at less than half full. Among the schools which could be affected by closure are Achahoish, Ardchonnel, Luing, Ardchattan, Achaleven, Barcaldine, Lochdonhead, Kilchrenan, Ulva and Keills primary schools. Councillors on the Executive Committee will be asked on November 2 to approve the start of formal consultations on the school closures and amalgamations and no decisions will be made before the consultations are complete.
