New schools “pre-consultation” still includes Ardchattan school

Everyone is delighted that Barcaldine school has been taken off the current target list for the school closures, however the children, teachers and parents of the parish are still very much in the councils sights for upheaval of the worst kind.

Ardchattan is a direct target for closure, seemingly without any comprehension of the potential devastation for the community of Bonawe, nor recognition of the incredible work the community continues to do.

Lochnell is aimed to be the receiving school for both Ardchattan and Achaleven despite so much evidence that it works superbly at the size it is, and has only theorectical capacity for more children. Increasing the population threatens some of the best of the extra services of the school community, like the wonderful pre-school and special needs.

For Argyll continues to be the best resource for a collective set of links and information and local opinion. Ardchattan’s own erudite and extremely well informed Dr Douglas McKenzie and Tim McIntyre have been instrumental in the growth of the Argyll Rural Schools Network and anyone who has a true interest in the future of our youngest and most vulnerable, are urged to join them. The removal of Barcaldine has not lessened their energy or fervour in bringing the whole process to an end, it is up to each and everyone of us to work together to protect our communities.
