Dawnfresh Fishfarm – planning committee supported the planning officers approval of application

A long day at the office… well at the planning committee meeting .. for a strong contingent of the local community to share with the planning committee their views on the Dawnfresh planning application for the large new trout farm on Loch Etive.

Of the people living around the loch, 89% of the  written submissions to the planning office were opposed to the Proposal.
Good arguments were put from both sides, supporting the proposal for the sake of jobs, even though these were not all from local people, and objecting to the development in terms of noise, lights, environmental threats, economic threats, the conditions of the ICZM, disturbance of the community and the many loch users.

The voices of the overwhelming majority of the speakers and the planning submissions were not the ones that the Councillors decided to side with. They told the assembled meeting that they had had a nice day out to our beautiful loch but that they supported the planning officers recommendation to approve the development.

There are conditions put on the approval, mainly that the equipment at two of the smaller sites – one by River Awe, and the other at Ardchattan Priory, should be removed in order that the expansion can go ahead. The latter site cannot be cleared until 2017.
